Introduction
In May 2023, the city of Liverpool hosted the 67th Eurovision Song Con-test (ESC) having been chosen by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) as the host city. Liverpool was selected after a competitive bidding process was undertaken when it was concluded that the event could not be held in the 2022 winning country of Ukraine for safety and security reasons (EBU, 2022b). The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 (ESC23) was not a one-night singing competition rather a mega-event which spanned nearly two weeks leading up to the final on Saturday, 13 May. Alongside nine live shows at the M&S Bank Arena, three of which were televised and reached a record 162 million viewers worldwide (EBU, 2023a), the city also hosted a range of other events, from club nights to cultural happenings and from Euro Villages to Euro Festivals (Eurovision TV, 2023).
